TAWANG – Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has called on power developers to shift their attention toward smaller hydropower initiatives to boost the state’s energy production. Speaking at the eighth steering committee meeting of the Hydropower Development Department in Tawang, Khandu underscored the potential of the state’s tributaries, which could generate between 100 and 300 megawatts of electricity.
The chief minister pointed out that Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs), already engaged in large-scale hydropower projects, are well-positioned to take on these smaller ventures concurrently. “With manpower and equipment already on-site, managing additional smaller projects should be feasible,” he remarked. Khandu stressed the need for timely execution, noting that delays in project completion carry a hefty financial toll—approximately ₹9 crore in lost revenue per day.
During the meeting, progress on 13 ongoing hydropower projects across Arunachal Pradesh was reviewed, with discussions focusing on overcoming bottlenecks to ensure swift advancement. The chief minister urged developers to capitalize on the state’s vast hydropower potential, emphasizing that such efforts could significantly enhance energy security and economic growth in the region.
