In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Arunachal Pradesh Police seized drugs valued at approximately Rs 6 lakh in West Siang district on Wednesday, arresting one individual in connection with the bust. The operation took place in Kugi village under Aalo police station jurisdiction, highlighting the force’s ongoing efforts to curb the drug menace in the region.
According to West Siang Superintendent of Police, Abhimanyu Poswal, the seizure followed a meticulously planned raid based on credible intelligence. A police team, led by Inspector Minjom Ete, Officer-in-Charge of Aalo Police Station, swooped in on the suspect’s location and recovered 61.25 grams of suspected heroin. The contraband was concealed in five soap cases, a common method used by traffickers to evade detection.
The arrested individual, identified as Biri Tahu, a 35-year-old resident of Kugi village, was apprehended at the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest he was involved in the local distribution of the illicit substance. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Aalo Police Station, and further inquiries are underway to trace the drug’s origin and potential network.
SP Poswal praised the team’s swift action, stating, “This operation reflects our zero-tolerance policy toward drug trafficking. We are committed to dismantling such networks and ensuring the safety of our communities.” The seizure marks another step in the Arunachal Pradesh Police’s sustained campaign against narcotics, particularly in rural areas where enforcement has been intensified.
Local residents have welcomed the police action, expressing hope that such efforts will deter drug-related activities in West Siang. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as the investigation continues to uncover the full extent of the trafficking chain.
