Itanagar, March 12, 2025 – Authorities in Arunachal Pradesh have apprehended three individuals suspected of carrying out multiple thefts and burglaries in the state capital, Itanagar. The arrests, executed by the Naharlagun police, are part of a broader initiative to curb rising criminal activities in the region.
The operation unfolded after police received reports of recurring theft incidents, prompting a swift response under the direction of Inspector K. Dev, Officer-in-Charge of Naharlagun Police Station, and supervised by SDPO Naharlagun, Rishi Longdo. The suspects, identified as Lokap Bagang, Nikhil Barman, and Tayu Taku, were nabbed in separate locations following meticulous investigations.
Lokap Bagang, a 35-year-old from Chayangtajo in East Kameng, was linked to a series of thefts at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) in Naharlagun. Authorities allege he preyed on vulnerable patients, stealing cash during early morning hours while they slept. His arrest ties him to Naharlagun PS Case No. 35/25 under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Nikhil Barman, aged 24 and hailing from Cooch Behar, West Bengal, faces charges related to daytime burglaries. Police recovered a weapon from his possession, indicating his intent to use force during break-ins. He is connected to Naharlagun PS Case No. 31/25 under multiple BNS sections.
The third suspect, 23-year-old Tayu Taku from Michawa, East Kameng, is described as a habitual offender with a history of vehicle thefts, burglaries, and housebreaking across the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR). Known for targeting unoccupied homes under the cover of night, Taku’s arrest relates to Naharlagun PS Case No. 29/25.
Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo praised the police team’s efforts and urged residents to exercise caution when purchasing second-hand goods, such as vehicles, electronics, or jewelry, which could be stolen property. “We are committed to ensuring safety and will continue our crackdown on such elements,” Gambo stated.
The arrests have brought relief to locals, who had expressed growing concerns over security. Investigations remain ongoing as police work to uncover potential accomplices and recover additional stolen items. This operation underscores the state’s resolve to bolster law enforcement and protect its citizens.
