Indra Mallo, the first woman from Arunachal Pradesh to join the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), has been empanelled for the Special Grade, equating to the rank of Additional Secretary in the Government of India.
Career Highlights
A 1999-batch IAS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, Mallo has held various significant positions across the country, including roles in Arunachal Pradesh and the central government. Notably, she served as the Chief Executive Officer in the Naxal-affected Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra from 2004 to 2006, where her exemplary work earned her recognition as an officer par excellence. She also represented India at the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review in Geneva in November 2022.
Educational Background and Personal Life
Mallo hails from Papum Pare district in Arunachal Pradesh and is an alumna of Donyi-Polo Vidya Bhawan. She is the daughter of the late Tarin Mallo, the first elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president of Arunachal Pradesh, and Dishi Mihu Mallo, the state’s first woman director.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the empanelment of 24 IAS officers from the 1997 to 2000 batches for central postings at the Additional Secretary-equivalent level. This list includes officers from various cadres such as Odisha, AGMUT, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam-Meghalaya, Bihar, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Gujarat, Manipur, and Tamil Nadu.
