Arunachal Pradesh is set to host the 2026 Asian Rafting Championships in Boleng, Siang district, from October 5 to 9. Chief Minister Pema Khandu made the announcement on August 6 after chairing a high-level preparatory meeting with top officials, signalling that the state is not just ready — it is serious about becoming a global adventure sports destination.

The preparation review was no routine affair. Khandu sat down with Asian Rafting Council President Shaukat Sikand and Arunachal Pradesh Water Sports Association President Nino Dai, with Sports Minister Ojing Tasing also in the room. Getting the Asian Rafting Council chief personally engaged at this stage says a lot — it tells you the state isn’t just hosting an event, it’s building a relationship with the international sporting community.
