The Indian Army has categorically rejected media reports claiming fresh encroachment by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in Arunachal Pradesh, describing the allegations as “incorrect and without any basis.”

Official Clarification from the Army

In a concise statement, the Army clarified that claims regarding the establishment of new PLA camps inside Indian territory lack foundation. This response addresses recent media coverage and public attention surrounding the issue along the India-China border.

Background of the Allegations

The Army’s rebuttal follows a memorandum submitted by the Nah Welfare Society (NWS), a community organization from Taksing in Upper Subansiri district, to the Deputy Commissioner. Dated June 26, the memorandum alleged gradual PLA expansion over the past 10–15 years, including the construction of roads, bridges, and military installations in traditionally used local areas.

The society highlighted five specific locations—Oying, Paniar (Chujarta area), Marpan (Marnafe), Potrang Lake, and Tindingtang (TG)—as allegedly occupied since 2020. These sites reportedly hold cultural and religious significance for local communities. The NWS urged both the state government and the Centre to take immediate steps to safeguard the border areas and prevent further activities.

Army’s Stance on Border Security

The Indian Army has expressed confidence in its role in protecting the frontier while maintaining that the reported encroachments are unfounded. The development underscores ongoing sensitivities regarding border management in the strategically important region of Arunachal Pradesh.
