Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has spotlighted the remarkable transformation of India’s Northeast region, describing it as a vibrant hub of peace, opportunity, and economic progress over the last 12 years. He credited sustained infrastructure development and policy initiatives for this positive shift.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), the Deputy CM emphasised how enhanced connectivity and massive investments have reshaped the region’s development trajectory, turning long-standing challenges into new avenues for growth.
Major Infrastructure Milestones Driving Change
Chowna Mein pointed to several landmark achievements that have boosted accessibility and economic potential across the Northeast:
- Over 96% railway electrification along with expanded rail networks
- Construction of eight greenfield airports
- Complete household electrification
- Iconic projects like the Sela Tunnel, providing all-weather connectivity to Tawang
“The region, once known for its remoteness and challenges, has today become a key hub of India’s development story,” Mein stated. He noted that improved road, rail, air, and waterway connectivity, along with various welfare schemes, has made development more inclusive while boosting tourism and investment opportunities.
Focus on Arunachal Pradesh’s Growth
The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted how Arunachal Pradesh has particularly benefited from these initiatives. The Sela Tunnel, for instance, has eliminated disruptions caused by heavy snowfall, enhancing mobility, strategic infrastructure, and opening up fresh avenues for tourism and local economic development.
“Improved connectivity remains one of the most significant changes witnessed in the Northeast,” Mein added. Modern bridges, expanding railways, and world-class infrastructure are now bringing communities closer and fostering greater economic activity.
Why This Matters for the Northeast
This transformation underscores the impact of long-term government focus on infrastructure and inclusive growth. The Northeast is increasingly positioned as an integral part of India’s overall development narrative, with better access creating opportunities for trade, tourism, and youth empowerment.
