Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor has emphasised the need to preserve and promote indigenous culture and traditions while addressing the Digo Yamo Festival celebrations.
Speaking as the chief guest at the Digo Yamo Festival organised by the Galo community in the Capital Complex on April 18, the Deputy Speaker highlighted the cultural significance of the festival and urged the younger generation to stay connected with their roots.
“Digo Yamo is not just a festival; it is a celebration of our identity, our values, and our rich Galo heritage. We must ensure that our unique customs, language, and traditions are passed on to the coming generations,” Kardo Nyigyor said.
He stressed that rapid modernisation and external influences should not dilute the distinct cultural identity of the tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. The Deputy Speaker called upon community leaders, parents, and youth to work together for the protection and promotion of indigenous practices.
The Digo Yamo Festival is one of the most important traditional festivals of the Galo tribe, marked by vibrant cultural performances, traditional rituals, folk songs, and community feasts. This year’s celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from people across the state.
Kardo Nyigyor also appreciated the organisers for successfully hosting the festival and maintaining its traditional essence.
The event concluded with colourful cultural programmes and a community feast, reinforcing the spirit of unity and cultural pride among the Galo community.
