Arunachal Pradesh: Itanagar Police Nab Eight in Raids Targeting Illegal Gambling

In a decisive move, the Itanagar Capital Police apprehended eight individuals on February 20, 2025, following a series of coordinated raids aimed at dismantling illegal gambling networks across the city. The crackdown was prompted by numerous complaints from residents about gambling activities disrupting public order at Nyokum Grounds and other hotspots.

The operation, spearheaded by Inspector Khiksi Yangfo, Officer-in-Charge of Itanagar Police Station, and Inspector Takhe Tasso, Second Officer-in-Charge, involved a skilled team including Sub-Inspector Inya Tato, Assistant Sub-Inspector M. Kamgo, and Constables Nabam Chakum, Tayo Bodo, and Santosh Garam. Supervised by Superintendent of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Kengo Dirchi, the raids unfolded over two days.

The first strike occurred on February 18 at 11:00 PM at Nyokum Lapang, where two suspects were caught in the act, and gambling equipment was seized. The following day, on February 19, four individuals were arrested at 5:00 PM near Ganga Daily Market, followed by two more at 6:30 PM at Nyokum Ground in Jollang, where they were organizing a dice-based gambling setup.

Authorities have registered three cases under the Arunachal Pradesh Gambling Prohibition Act, logged as case numbers 22/25, 23/25, and 24/25 at Itanagar Police Station. SP Rohit Rajbir Singh praised the team’s swift action, reiterating the police’s dedication to upholding law and order and curbing unlawful activities in the capital. The operation underscores a broader commitment to enhancing public safety and responding to community concerns in Itanagar.
