Jaunpur Road Accident: Major Collision on Highway, Nine Pilgrims Dead, 32 Injured
Jaunpur, (H.S.). A tragic accident occurred in Jaunpur district early Thursday morning, claiming the lives of nine pilgrims and leaving 32 others injured. The incident took place on the Varanasi-Lucknow National Highway 731, near the Sarokhanpur underpass. The accident involved multiple vehicles, including a Tata Sumo and a bus.
In the first collision, a Tata Sumo collided with another vehicle, resulting in the death of five people aboard the vehicle. Six others were critically injured. Simultaneously, a bus crashed into a trailer, killing three passengers and injuring 27 others. The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. After the accident, one more pilgrim succumbed to injuries in the hospital, bringing the death toll to nine.
The passengers on the bus were reportedly from Delhi, traveling from Chitrakoot to Prayagraj and then on to Varanasi, with plans to visit Ayodhya. The passengers in the Tata Sumo were from Jharkhand and were en route to Ayodhya after visiting Varanasi.
Chaos and Despair at the Accident Site
The accident caused chaos at the scene, as passengers in both vehicles were caught off guard. The collision occurred while the bus passengers were sleeping, and the sudden impact with the trailer startled them. Many were injured due to the shock of the impact, while others seated at the front of the bus were severely hurt. Passengers aboard the Tata Sumo were also partially asleep at the time of the crash.
Upon receiving the news, Inspector-in-Charge Gajanan Choubey, along with his team and Tehsildar Rakesh Kumar, arrived at the site. The police swiftly took all the injured to the local Community Health Center (CHC) for initial treatment before referring them to the district hospital. The bodies of the deceased were sent for postmortem.
Details of the First Incident
The first incident involved a Tata Sumo (registration number JH 02 AEX 1652), which was carrying 11 pilgrims from Jharkhand. The vehicle had visited Kashi Vishwanath and was heading to Ayodhya after a stop at Ram Lalla’s temple. The accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. when the Sumo collided with an unknown large vehicle about 200 meters ahead of the Sarokhanpur underpass.
In the crash, five passengers, including three women and one man, along with a 5-year-old child, died on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Kanti Devi (60), Nitesh (20), and others. The injured have been identified as residents of Kat Sara Shool, Jharkhand.
