Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh: The picturesque town of Namsai in Arunachal Pradesh played host to the inaugural Pagoda Marathon, which saw participation from top athletes from around the world.
Kenya’s Hillary Korir and Ethiopia’s Bikila Gonfa emerged victorious in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively, covering the 42.195-km distance in impressive times.
The Pagoda Marathon, held on February 11, 2025, aimed to promote tourism and sports in the region, showcasing Namsai’s stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.
_Athletes from 15 Countries Participate_
The marathon attracted a diverse field of athletes from 15 countries, including Kenya, Ethiopia, Japan, and the United States. Indian athletes also made a strong showing, with several participants from Arunachal Pradesh and other states.
The event was organized by the Namsai District Administration, in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh government and various sponsors.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu attended the prize distribution ceremony, congratulating the winners and participants on their achievements.
“The Pagoda Marathon is a testament to Namsai’s potential as a world-class tourist destination,” Khandu said. “We will continue to promote sports and tourism in the region, creating opportunities for local youth and showcasing our unique culture to the world.”
