That was essentially the message PHE&WS Minister Mama Natung sent loud and clear on Thursday when he sat down with field officers of the Public Health Engineering and Water Supply department in Itanagar and made it unmistakably plain: delays are no longer acceptable.

Natung chaired a state-level review meeting of the PHE&WS Department, attended by his adviser Pani Taram and PHE&WS Commissioner Amjad Tak, along with chief engineers, superintendent engineers, executive engineers, and senior officials of the department. It wasn’t a ceremonial gathering. The minister meant business. He directed all field officers to ensure timely completion of projects, expedite the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) implementation, strengthen operation and maintenance of water supply schemes, improve revenue collection, and enhance inter-departmental coordination. The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing projects, the Jal Jeevan Mission, budget proposals, flood damage restoration, water metering initiatives, revenue generation, and human resource matters.
