Rescue teams in Arunachal Pradesh’s Keyi Panyor district have recovered two bodies while stepping up operations to locate three individuals still missing following a devastating flash flood that struck the NEEPCO Colony near Possa village.
Ongoing Search Operations Four Days After Disaster
Five people were initially reported missing after floodwaters swept through the area on June 24. Two bodies have since been recovered, leaving three unaccounted for as search efforts continue into their fifth day.
Deputy Commandant Anand Patel of the 12th Battalion National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) confirmed that specialised search equipment, canine squads, and boats have been deployed to navigate the challenging conditions. The district administration and local police initiated immediate rescue work, though road blockages initially delayed the NDRF team’s arrival.
Challenges Hindering Rescue Efforts
The operation faces significant obstacles, including large volumes of floating debris, hazardous materials, and sharp objects carried by the floodwaters. The district’s hilly terrain and fluctuating weather conditions have further complicated search activities.
Additional NDRF teams with advanced gear are expected to join, enabling expanded and more intensive search operations in the affected zones.
Despite these difficulties, rescue personnel remain committed to locating the remaining missing individuals and supporting affected families in the flood-hit region.
