Naharlagun: In a proactive step to enhance law and order, the Naharlagun Police organised a coordination meeting with representatives of various bazar committees in the capital complex area on March 30.
The meeting, chaired by Capital Region Superintendent of Police Nyelam Nega, was attended by market welfare associations, shopkeepers’ committees, and senior police officials. It focused on improving coordination between police and local traders to address rising concerns related to theft, drug peddling, illegal parking, traffic congestion, and other urban security challenges in Naharlagun.
Key issues discussed during the meeting included:
- Strengthening night patrolling and market surveillance
- Better coordination during festivals and peak business hours
- Prevention of drug abuse and peddling in commercial areas
- Regulation of parking and removal of encroachments
- Installation of additional CCTV cameras at vulnerable points
- Prompt sharing of intelligence and suspicious activities by shopkeepers
SP Nyelam Nega urged bazar committee members to act as the “eyes and ears” of the police and immediately report any suspicious movement or criminal activity. He assured full police support for maintaining a safe and secure business environment in the bustling market areas.
Traders, on their part, welcomed the initiative and assured full cooperation with the police. They also raised demands for regular patrolling, faster response to complaints, and better lighting in certain market pockets.
This coordination meeting is part of the Naharlagun Police’s ongoing efforts to build community-police partnerships for effective urban policing in the rapidly growing capital region of Arunachal Pradesh.
