The inaugural Late Dorjee Khandu Memorial District-Level Archery Tournament concluded with a grand felicitation ceremony in Tawang, where top-performing archers were celebrated for their skill and dedication. Organized by the Tawang District Archery Association (TDAA), the event saw Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering as the chief guest, joined by distinguished figures including Deputy Commissioner Kanki Darang, SP DW Thongon, and Brigadier Bhupal Singh, Commander of the Tawang Brigade. The tournament, held at the Mentsemtse Mega Festival Ground, paid tribute to the legacy of former Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu while showcasing the regionโs rich archery tradition.
In the Olympic-style recurve archery category, Lobsang Phuntsok clinched the senior menโs title, with Pema Ladak taking the senior womenโs crown. The junior category saw Sonam Tsering and Pema Chotten emerging victorious in the boysโ and girlsโ divisions, respectively. For traditional archery, the team from Lungla outshone competitors to claim the top spot, highlighting the competitive spirit and cultural significance of the sport in Arunachal Pradesh. Cash prizes, medals, and certificates were awarded to the winners, with special recognition given to all participants for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering praised the TDAA for their efforts in promoting archery, a sport deeply embedded in the Monpa communityโs heritage. He emphasized its role in fostering discipline and focus among the youth, urging participants to aim for national and international stages. TDAA Chairman Tashi Tsering echoed this sentiment, expressing gratitude to Chief Minister Pema Khandu and the Khandu family for their unwavering support in nurturing young talent and preserving the stateโs sporting legacy.
The event, which featured 30 teams in traditional archery and multiple competitors in Olympic-style events, concluded with vibrant cultural performances, leaving a lasting impression on attendees.
