When an elected representative shows up at a construction site without prior ceremony, it usually means business. That’s exactly the kind of visit Singchung got on Friday.
Thrizino-Buragaon MLA Tenzin Nyima Glow descended on Singchung sub-division in West Kameng district for a hands-on inspection of multiple ongoing development projects — and he came with a clear message for the agencies in charge: deliver quality work, and deliver it on time.
Glow was accompanied by West Kameng Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar and Singchung ADC Murnya Kakki. Together, the team made rounds of three key sites — the under-construction PWD circuit house, the infrastructure being built at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Singchung, and the Type-II staff quarters along with a girls’ hostel coming up at Middle School in Kaspi.
The GHSS infrastructure is being funded through the Legislator Area Development Fund, making it a project that carries the MLA’s own political commitment. It’s one thing to sanction funds — it’s another to walk into the dust and noise and see how the money is actually being spent.
At Kaspi’s Middle School, DC Dilip Kumar didn’t just observe. He stepped in with a specific directive — wrap up the work soon, and make sure it’s done right, with proper water supply, sanitation facilities, and strict adherence to prescribed construction norms. These aren’t small details. For students in a remote sub-division, a functioning toilet and clean water can mean the difference between attending school and staying home.
The visit also carried a softer, more human moment. The MLA and DC took time out to sit with the students and have a word with them — encouragement that happened to fall on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. It’s the kind of gesture that tends to stick with young people in remote areas who rarely see their representatives up close, let alone in their school compounds.
The inspection team wasn’t a small one either. Zilla Panchayat Members, the Singchung Circle Officer, a PWD Assistant Engineer, school heads, Gram Panchayat Chairpersons, and Gaon Burahs were all part of the entourage — a sign that this wasn’t just a routine photo-op, but an effort to bring together all the key stakeholders under one roof, or rather, under one roof yet to be completed.
Singchung sub-division, tucked in the hills of West Kameng, has waited long for basic infrastructure to catch up. Inspections like these matter — not just for accountability on paper, but because when officials actually visit a site, the pace of work on the ground tends to pick up. Contractors know they’ve been seen. Workers know someone is watching.
The real test, of course, isn’t the inspection. It’s what gets built after the vehicles leave and the officials head back to Bomdila. The students of Singchung deserve to find out the answer to that question sooner rather than later.
