On a day that meant everything to 111 young men and women, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu walked into a ceremony — and walked out having set a new bar for what the state expects from its teachers.
A Moment Years in the Making
July 16 wasn’t just another government function. Khandu personally handed over appointment letters to 111 successful candidates of the Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) Examination-2025, in a ceremony organised by the General Administration Department. For many of these recruits, it marked the end of a long road — out of 5,774 who applied, only 131 made it to the final selection list. That’s a pass rate that demands respect. The process ran from a preliminary exam in November 2025, through mains in February 2026, all the way to interviews in May. Rigorous doesn’t even begin to cover it.
Clean Process, No Shortcuts
Khandu was quick to credit the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission for running what he called a transparent, efficient, and time-bound recruitment. That’s not a small thing in a region where recruitment controversies have made headlines before. The government has restructured the APPSC and set up the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board precisely to close loopholes and keep merit at the centre. “Today, both institutions have become symbols of transparency,” Khandu said — and the packed ceremony suggested people believe him.
One thing that stood out — the CM specifically celebrated the performance of women candidates. He said daughters of Arunachal are consistently leading in competitive exams, and called the state’s future “safe hands.” It was a genuine moment, not just political posturing.
Mission 2029 — Arunachal’s Education Bet
The backdrop to all this is the government’s flagship Mission Shikshit Arunachal-2029. Over 600 schools have already been rationalised under the scheme, with district-wise consultations identifying more for merger and consolidation. The CM was blunt about it — expanding the number of schools after statehood wasn’t matched by quality, and that gap needs fixing now. The focus has shifted. Model schools with proper infrastructure, hostels where needed, and enough teachers — that’s the new standard being chased.
Global Ambition, Local Talent
Khandu also flagged a scholarship programme for students gaining entry to the world’s top 150 universities under QS rankings, with the government covering up to 70-75 percent of education costs for eligible technical students. Students from Arunachal are already studying at some of the world’s finest institutions, he said — and they’ll come back with skills the state badly needs.
The 111 teachers leaving that hall carry more than an appointment letter. They carry the weight of a state that has decided it’s done making excuses about education. Whether they deliver on that trust is now entirely up to them — and that, honestly, is exactly how it should be.
