Once Battling Addiction, Now Fighting for Flood Victims — Recovering Warriors Raise Nearly Rs 90K for Arunachal

They fought their own darkest battles. Now they’re fighting for someone else’s survival.

Recovering Warriors, a group made up of addiction survivors from Arunachal Pradesh, has pulled off something remarkable — collecting Rs 89,094 in just three days to help families devastated by the floods in Keyi Panyor district. It’s the kind of story that makes you pause and think about what community really means.

From the Markets to the Flood-Hit Homes

The donation drive ran from July 3 to July 5, and the team didn’t sit back waiting for people to come to them. They went straight to the public — setting up at Oyan Main Market, Ruksin Main Market, and Pasighat Main Market, collecting contributions from shopkeepers, daily commuters, and ordinary residents who opened their wallets without hesitation. Pasighat turned out to be the most generous, with Rs 38,471 collected there alone. Oyan contributed Rs 28,340 and Ruksin added Rs 22,283 to the total.

Every Rupee Accounted For

The money wasn’t just handed over in a bag somewhere. The funds, collected through both cash and verified digital payment methods, were officially handed to the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ruksin under Siang district. From there, the amount was transferred directly into the relief account of the Deputy Commissioner of Keyi Panyor district — ensuring every rupee goes toward buying actual relief materials for flood-affected families. That kind of accountability matters. Especially when the donors are ordinary people trusting a group of recovering individuals to do the right thing.

A Thank You That Said Everything

Recovering Warriors representative Mohan Tamut was visibly moved by the public’s response. He thanked the people of Oyan, Ruksin, Pasighat, and surrounding areas for stepping up so generously, saying that the overwhelming support from the community made the campaign far more successful than they had expected. And honestly, it’s hard to argue with that. Nearly Rs 90,000 in three days — from market stalls, not boardrooms — says a lot about the heart of these communities.

Proof That Recovery Is Strength

What makes this story stand out isn’t just the money. It’s who raised it. These are people who once struggled with addiction — people who society often writes off or forgets about. And yet here they are, running a coordinated multi-location relief drive, maintaining financial transparency, and delivering real help to real people in crisis. Recovery isn’t just about getting better personally. For the Recovering Warriors, it’s clearly become a way of giving back.

When floods take everything from a family, hope often comes from the most unexpected places. This time, it came from warriors who know what it feels like to lose — and rise again.
