Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has declared that the Himalayan state is stepping into a fresh phase of progress centred on quality, sustainability, youth empowerment, and inclusive economic growth as it marked its 51st Statehood Day on May 16.

In a heartfelt public message, CM Tamang extended warm greetings to Sikkimese people across the globe, calling the occasion a moment of immense pride, gratitude, and celebration. He highlighted how Sikkim has evolved over five decades into a beacon of peace, harmony, environmental protection, and balanced development since its merger with India in 1975.

The Chief Minister recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit during the Golden Jubilee closing celebrations, describing it as a proud national endorsement of Sikkim’s journey. Projects worth over ₹4,000 crore were inaugurated or announced during the PM’s trip. Tamang quoted the Prime Minister calling Sikkim the “heaven of the East” and praising its achievements in sustainable development, organic farming, cleanliness, and peaceful coexistence.

Looking ahead, the state government will focus on raising standards in education, healthcare, employment generation, sports, entrepreneurship, and infrastructure. Special emphasis is being placed on empowering the youth through expanded skill development and sports facilities. Initiatives under Khelo India and FIT India are gaining momentum, with the revival of the State Sports Academy at Paljor Stadium and upcoming specialised centres like the Tarundeep Rai Archery Academy and a boxing academy named after Olympian Jas Lal Pradhan. A major Swarna Jayanti Sports and Cultural Complex is also in the pipeline.

On the employment front, over 13,500 candidates have been trained under central schemes, resulting in more than 11,000 placements. The CM–ELEVATE Scheme is opening doors for overseas opportunities, including the recent placement of 13 nurses in Germany. The MSME sector has witnessed explosive growth, with registered units rising dramatically from around 250 in 2019 to over 35,000 today.

Sikkim continues to lead in sustainability as India’s first fully organic state, with more than 76,000 hectares under chemical-free farming. Climate resilience projects, including a pioneering Glacial Lake Outburst Flood mitigation plan, are also underway. Significant strides have been made in healthcare infrastructure, including new district hospitals and expanded super-speciality services. In education, the state has introduced kindergarten in all government schools.

With record tourist arrivals of 17.2 lakh in 2025 and continued focus on rural development and connectivity, Sikkim is charting an ambitious yet responsible path forward. CM Tamang called for collective efforts to build a “golden, prosperous, and capable Sikkim” in line with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
