Itanagar: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has delivered a significant blow to drug trafficking by seizing nearly 60 kg of ganja valued at over Rs 29 lakh from railway stations in the region between April 20 and 22, 2026.
In two separate incidents at New Jalpaiguri railway station, RPF teams recovered unclaimed consignments during routine checks — 18 kg worth Rs 9 lakh on April 20 and another 13.8 kg worth Rs 6.9 lakh on the same day. The following day at Agartala railway station, 21.48 kg of ganja valued at Rs 10.74 lakh was seized, leading to the arrest of two persons. On April 22, another 6 kg worth Rs 3 lakh was recovered from one individual at the same station.
All three arrested individuals were handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further legal proceedings.
RPF officials stated that the force has ramped up surveillance and intelligence-based operations to prevent the misuse of trains and railway premises for narcotics trafficking. Such proactive drives will continue to ensure a safe and secure rail network across the Northeast.
This successful operation underscores the RPF’s commitment to curbing the illegal drug trade that often exploits railway routes in the region.
