Sille (East Siang): The Arunachal Pradesh government is actively promoting sustainable rural livelihoods by organising specialised training programmes in sericulture and beekeeping for local farmers.
Conducted at the Sericulture Farm in Sille under Ruksin Sub-Division on April 27, 2026, the hands-on sessions attracted more than 40 participants. These included registered beneficiaries already engaged in these activities as well as enthusiastic individuals from nearby villages such as Remi, Tekang, Ruksin, Sika Tode, and Sika Bamin.
The training, organised by the Department of Sericulture under the Directorate of Textile and Handicraft, focused on scientific methods of bee rearing and comprehensive sericulture practices. Participants learned about host plant plantation for silkworms, different stages of silk production, and practical techniques for both pre-cocoon and post-cocoon processes.
Zonal Officer Talong Tadeng (Zone-II) explained that the initiative aims to equip farmers with technical expertise to improve productivity and ensure long-term sustainability in both sectors. Deputy Director Dagmo Riba announced that selected farmers would receive advanced training along with government support in the form of equipment and plantation resources.
Officials urged participants to apply the acquired knowledge effectively to generate steady income and create employment opportunities in rural areas through honey production and silk farming.
This effort reflects the state’s push towards diversifying rural economies by tapping into traditional yet high-potential sectors like sericulture and beekeeping, fostering self-reliance among farming communities in East Siang and beyond.
