Silchar: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Assam Police seized 290 grams of suspected heroin valued at approximately Rs 1.5 crore in the international black market and arrested two persons from Manipur near Silchar.
The seizure took place on April 13, 2026, around 11:20 PM at the Ramnagar bypass under Silchar Police Station in Cachar district. Acting on specific intelligence regarding drug smuggling, a police team intercepted an ECO van coming from Churachandpur in Manipur.
During the search, officers recovered 24 soap cases containing the contraband. The substance tested positive for heroin through a drug detection kit.
The two arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Thangboi (son of Kamneu)
- Tongsat Singson (son of Thangtinlal Singson)
Both are residents of Khongjang village in Thanlon sub-division of Churachandpur district, Manipur.
Apart from the heroin, police also recovered two mobile handsets from the accused.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the consignment, its intended destination, and possible links to a larger drug trafficking network operating between Manipur and Assam.
This operation highlights the continued vigilance of Silchar Police against inter-state drug smuggling in the Northeast region.
