Itanagar: A 16-year-old girl from Arunachal Pradesh, who had gone missing with the intention of travelling to Mumbai, was safely traced by police near the Tigdo Bridge area in the Capital Region on April 13.
Acting on a missing person complaint filed by the girl’s family, Capital Police launched a swift search operation. The minor was located near Tigdo Bridge (between Itanagar and Naharlagun) before she could board any long-distance transport.
According to police sources, the girl had planned to leave for Mumbai after getting in touch with someone through social media. She was intercepted by a police team before she could proceed further.
The minor has been counselled and handed over to her family members after necessary formalities. Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter to identify any individuals who may have been involved in luring or encouraging the girl to leave home.
Superintendent of Police, Capital Region, Dr. Nyelam Nega appealed to parents and guardians to remain vigilant about their children’s online activities and to educate them about the risks associated with interacting with strangers on social media.
He also urged the public to immediately report any suspicious movement of minors to the nearest police station or through the helpline numbers.
This incident once again highlights the growing concern over online grooming and unsafe travel attempts by minors in the state.
