New Delhi – Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the nation’s leading automaker, has unveiled an ambitious plan to invest over Rs 925 crore to expand its solar power capacity to 319 megawatt peak (MWp) by the financial year 2030-31. This move underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable energy as it ramps up vehicle production.
The initiative includes the recent commissioning of a 20MWp solar project at its new Kharkhoda facility in Haryana and an additional 10MWp at its Manesar plant. These projects have increased MSIL’s total solar capacity from 49MWp to 79MWp within a year. The company is also enhancing its reliance on green power sourced from state electricity boards.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki, emphasized the alignment with Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Environment Vision 2050 and India’s renewable energy goals. “As we scale production to four million units, we are dedicated to matching this growth with sustainable practices. This solar expansion is a vital step toward a cleaner energy ecosystem,” Takeuchi stated.
By FY2030-31, Maruti Suzuki aims for renewable energy to account for nearly 85% of its total electricity consumption, reinforcing its role in India’s clean energy transition.
