Authorities in Seppa have rescued seven minor children from hazardous work conditions during a targeted anti-child labour drive, reinforcing the district’s commitment to protecting young lives and enforcing labour laws.
In a coordinated operation conducted on May 8, officials inspected multiple commercial establishments across Seppa Market in East Kameng district. The team rescued seven children working in garages, car wash centres, and shops, where they were reportedly engaged in various forms of manual labour.
The rescue mission was led by Tashi W. Thongdok in collaboration with Labour and Employment Officer Ashok Sonam, Child Welfare Committee Chairperson Chacho D. Bagang, Sub-Inspector D. Tachang along with his police team, and DCPU Protection Officer Katung Gyadi. Their swift action helped remove the minors from exploitative environments and bring them under protective care.
Following standard protocol, the rescued children were produced before the competent authority and placed in a Child Care Institution (CCI) for their immediate safety, counselling, rehabilitation, and education. Officials are also examining the role of employers and investigating possible violations to ensure accountability.
The administration described the drive as part of its sustained efforts to eliminate child labour and uphold children’s rights in the region. Such proactive inspections aim to create a safer environment where every child has access to education and a childhood free from exploitation.
Seppa, the headquarters of East Kameng district, has seen increased focus on child protection initiatives in recent times. Local authorities have urged business owners, parents, and community members to cooperate with enforcement agencies and report any instances of child labour.
This successful operation sends a strong message that Arunachal Pradesh is serious about curbing illegal employment of minors. Experts believe continued vigilance, awareness campaigns, and strict enforcement will be key to addressing the root causes of child labour in both urban and rural pockets of the state.
