Itanagar: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has taken a significant step to preserve the legacy of late whistleblower Gyamar Padang by officially reserving land for a ‘Statue of Honesty’ in his memory.
On May 5, 2026 — the third death anniversary of Padang — AAPSU president Meje Taku led a commemorative programme at the 6 KM point near the temple and vegetable market area. Union leaders, executive members, supporters, and local residents gathered at the site, where they cleared vegetation and formally dedicated the plot for the proposed memorial. A commemorative board was also unveiled declaring the land reserved for the statue.
Gyamar Padang had exposed the massive Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) paper leak scandal, which shook the state and sparked widespread outrage over corruption in recruitment processes. AAPSU described the ‘Statue of Honesty’ as a lasting tribute to his courage, integrity, and commitment to transparency and merit-based governance.
Leaders emphasised that the monument would serve as a powerful symbol of resistance against corruption and continue to inspire students and youth in their fight for justice and accountability.
This initiative reflects the student body’s resolve to keep Padang’s ideals alive and promote ethical values in public life across Arunachal Pradesh.
