High-Profile Gathering in New Delhi Spotlights Collaborative Strategies, Athlete Empowerment, and Institutional Partnerships to Propel India as a Global Sports Powerhouse
The Indian Army orchestrated a dynamic assembly of military brass, sports visionaries, and elite performers at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi, solidifying its pivotal contributions to India’s athletic renaissance. Dubbed the Army Sports Conclave 2025, this forward-looking forum galvanized stakeholders around a unified vision: catapulting the nation to unprecedented success at the 2036 Olympics through innovative training paradigms and cross-sector alliances.
In his opening remarks, Lt Gen Ajay Ramdev, Director General of Integrated Training, portrayed the conclave as a vibrant intersection of ambition and fervor. He lauded the Mission Olympic Wing’s tireless efforts and the resilience of para-athletes, while spotlighting the Army’s pivot to evidence-based methodologies that blend analytics, psychological fortitude, and holistic preparation. “This gathering fuses determination with drive, and the Army stands resolute in channeling that energy to echo India’s worldwide ambitions,” Ramdev declared.
Hari Ranjan Rao, Secretary for Sports, took the podium for the keynote, applauding the Army’s legacy in forging top-tier talents and advancing adaptive and exploratory athletics. He illuminated flagship programs like the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), Khelo India hubs, and the fusion of cutting-edge sports science, urging seamless teamwork to actualize long-range goals. “A blend of rigorous innovation, broad access, and enduring strategies will carve India’s path to Olympic dominance,” Rao affirmed.
Lt Gen Rakesh Kapoor, Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Information Systems & Training), reinforced the military’s storied bond with athletics—rooted in endurance, rigor, and camaraderie. He outlined ongoing enhancements in tech-infused regimens and joint ventures with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), corporate innovators, and academic circles. “Harnessing our shared determination will elevate India to the forefront of international sports by 2036,” Kapoor stressed.
Central to the proceedings were two guiding pillars: ‘Institutional Synergy’ and ‘Athlete 360,’ which delved into harmonizing policies, frameworks, and tech advancements for comprehensive competitor growth. Specialized panels dissected stakeholder alignment and blueprints for resilient infrastructures geared toward podium triumphs.
A captivating ‘Fireside Chat’ featured top defense executives, medal-winning competitors, and industry trailblazers, unpacking actionable pathways to the 2036 vision and emphasizing fused operations across armed forces, public entities, and business realms.
The highlight unfolded at South Block, where Chief of Army Staff Gen Upendra Dwivedi honored three icons with the Army Sports Lifetime Achievement Award for their indelible marks on Indian athletics:
- Col Balbir Singh Kullar (Retd), Bronze Medalist in Hockey at the 1968 Olympics
- Murlikant Petkar, Gold Medalist in the 1972 Paralympics
- Hony Capt Vijay Kumar Sharma, Silver Medalist in Shooting at the 2012 Olympics
This tribute celebrated their grit, tenacity, and dedication, mirroring the Army’s mantra of selfless contribution.
Synchronizing with the Army Roadmap 2032, the National Sports Development Bill, and Khel Niti 2025, the conclave heralds a transformative chapter in India’s competitive arena. It wrapped on a high note, rallying all parties to cultivate alliances, champion performer-focused infrastructures, and collectively forge a legacy of excellence that cements India’s stature as a sporting titan.
