Arunachal Pradesh Legislator Demands Justice for Victims at Sanggo Residential School and Highlights Need for Widespread Child Protection Initiatives
In a powerful stand against child exploitation, Arunachal Pradesh’s Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng has voiced profound sorrow regarding the disturbing incident of child molestation and sexual assault reported at Sanggo Residential School in Mebo village. Describing the event as a “deep scar on our shared conscience,” Tayeng emphasized the urgent need for swift justice and unified societal efforts to shield vulnerable young lives.
Representing the 39th Mebo Assembly constituency, the MLA shared his personal devastation over the matter, labeling it as utterly distressing and soul-crushing. He reaffirmed that local authorities, including the district administration and law enforcement, are treating the investigation with the highest priority. “Perpetrators who target innocent children must be held accountable without mercy—justice will be relentless and uncompromising,” Tayeng declared firmly.
Tayeng extended a heartfelt plea to residents, journalists, and online influencers to prioritize the well-being and confidentiality of the affected children and their loved ones. He stressed the importance of thoughtful conduct, cautioning against any behavior that might exacerbate the trauma endured by those involved.
To address the immediate fallout and foster lasting change, the MLA outlined comprehensive support strategies. These include prompt access to mental health counseling and emotional recovery services for the victims. Looking ahead, Tayeng committed to rolling out extensive educational campaigns at the grassroots level, targeting schools and rural communities to promote child protection and gender equality awareness.
“Our vision includes targeted workshops in villages and educational institutions focused on preventing abuse and cultivating environments where kids can thrive securely,” he noted. This proactive approach aims to empower communities with knowledge and tools to spot risks early and respond effectively.
Urging a shift from mere observation to active involvement, Tayeng rallied everyone to rally behind the impacted families. “We must unite as guardians of our youth, turning this painful chapter into one of recovery, education, and unbreakable prevention. Protecting our children isn’t optional—it’s our sacred duty,” he concluded.
This response underscores a growing momentum in Arunachal Pradesh for enhanced child safety measures, blending legal accountability with community-driven prevention to build a safer future.
