In a significant move toward sustainable agriculture, a new collaboration in Arunachal Pradesh is poised to transform the livelihoods of local farmers through the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants. Kirat Biotech Private Limited has joined forces with Koje Janggo MAP Farmer Producer Company (FPC) under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering organic farming, boosting rural economies, and meeting the rising global demand for natural remedies.
This partnership focuses on growing, processing, and marketing a variety of medicinal plants native to the region, leveraging Arunachal Pradesh’s rich biodiversity. Farmers affiliated with the FPC will dedicate land to cultivating these high-value crops using eco-friendly methods that preserve the environment and promote biodiversity. The agreement ensures a stable market for their produce, with Kirat Biotech committing to buy back all harvests at competitive rates, supported by a guaranteed pricing structure.
Pramila Choudhury, Co-Founder and Director of Kirat Biotech, hailed the initiative as a milestone for sustainable development in the state. “This collaboration is a step forward in blending agriculture with environmental care, offering rural communities a reliable source of income,” she said. Meanwhile, Yasan Darang, Managing Director of Koje Janggo MAP FPC, emphasized the benefits for farmers, noting that the partnership provides not just economic security but also a chance to contribute to ecological conservation.
The initiative aligns with broader efforts to position Arunachal Pradesh as a hub for organic farming. By focusing exclusively on medicinal and aromatic plants—such as those used in traditional healing and modern herbal industries—the project taps into a growing market while preserving the state’s natural heritage. Training and technical support will also be provided to ensure farmers succeed in this venture, making it a model for rural empowerment and environmental stewardship.
