Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Police have finally arrested a key accused in a major driving licence scam who had been evading arrest for more than a year.
The accused, identified as Toko Takar, was nabbed by a team of Capital Police from a hideout in the Itanagar-Naharlagun area on April 11. He had been on the run since 2025 after his name surfaced in a widespread racket involving the issuance of fake driving licences through illegal means.
According to police sources, Toko Takar was allegedly involved in a well-organised syndicate that facilitated the issuance of driving licences without proper tests or documentation. Several complaints had been registered against him and his associates for cheating and forgery.
The arrest was made possible after sustained intelligence gathering and tracking by the Capital Police. A case had already been registered against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act.
Superintendent of Police, Capital Region, Dr. Nyelam Nega confirmed the arrest and said further investigation is underway to identify other members of the racket and recover proceeds of the crime.
This arrest is being seen as a significant breakthrough in the long-pending licence scam case and a strong message that no one can evade the law indefinitely in Arunachal Pradesh.
Police have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to fake documents or illegal services.
