Itanagar: In a swift and well-coordinated operation, Arunachal Pradesh Police have rescued a 16-year-old girl from Rajasthan who had gone missing and arrested the accused involved in her online grooming and abduction.
The girl, a resident of Rajasthan, was reported missing by her family a few days ago. Acting on a tip-off and through technical surveillance, a team from the Capital Police traced her to a location in the Itanagar-Naharlagun area.
Police rescued the minor girl safely and arrested the main accused, identified as Tage Rinyo (28), a resident of Upper Subansiri district. Investigation revealed that the accused had been grooming the girl online for several months using fake identities on social media platforms. He allegedly lured her with false promises and brought her to Arunachal Pradesh.
A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for kidnapping and other offences.
Superintendent of Police, Capital Region, Dr. Nyelam Nega confirmed the arrest and rescue. He appreciated the quick response of the investigating team and warned that police will take strict action against anyone involved in online grooming and exploitation of minors.
The rescued girl has been counselled and handed over to her family members after necessary medical and legal formalities. Police have appealed to parents and guardians to remain vigilant about their children’s online activities and to report any suspicious behaviour immediately.
This case once again highlights the growing menace of online grooming and cybercrime targeting minors in the Northeast region.
