Tawang: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has said that the upcoming Shyaro Hydroelectric Project will play a vital role in ensuring reliable and quality power supply to the people of Tawang district.
Reviewing the progress of the 2 MW Shyaro Mini Hydel Project on April 9, the Deputy CM expressed satisfaction with the ongoing work and directed officials to complete the project at the earliest. Once commissioned, the project is expected to benefit several remote villages in and around Tawang by providing stable electricity.
Chowna Mein emphasised that the state government is giving special focus to developing small and mini hydropower projects in border and remote areas where extending the main grid is difficult and costly.
“This project will go a long way in addressing the power shortage in Tawang and will support local development, education, healthcare, and tourism-related activities,” he stated.
The Shyaro project is being executed by the Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APEDA). Officials informed the Deputy CM that civil works and installation of electromechanical equipment are progressing well.
The Deputy CM also reviewed other ongoing power projects in the district and instructed concerned departments to ensure timely completion while maintaining quality standards.
With several mini hydel projects in the pipeline, the Arunachal government aims to make Tawang and other border districts largely self-sufficient in power generation through sustainable and environment-friendly sources.
