Itanagar: Meje Taku has been elected as the new president of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU), the apex student body of the state, in its 27th General Election held on April 5, 2026.
According to the final results declared after 25 rounds of counting, Meje Taku secured a decisive victory with 2,513 votes, defeating his nearest rival Debia Muj who received 1,552 votes. The third contender, Byabang Hapo Dui, polled 1,480 votes. Taku won the presidential post with a comfortable margin of 961 votes.
In the key post of General Secretary, Mato Bui emerged victorious with 2,644 votes, defeating his closest competitor by a margin of 1,270 votes.

- Co-Convenor (Women): Reri Tajo Rai
- Finance Secretary: Zentle Mosu (won with highest margin of 1,337 votes)
- Games & Sports Secretary: Tana Tagi Tara

- Chief Auditor: Kocho Nampe
The election witnessed significant controversy, disruptions, and reports of violence during the polling process, making it one of the most keenly contested and turbulent student polls in recent years.
The newly elected AAPSU team is expected to take charge amid high expectations from students across the state. The leadership will be tasked with addressing key student-related issues including education reforms, hostel facilities, scholarships, and safeguarding the rights of Arunachalee students.
This leadership change comes at a crucial time as the student body continues to play a major role in voicing concerns on issues ranging from infrastructure development to protection of indigenous rights in Arunachal Pradesh.
