Naharlagun: In a major anti-narcotics success, Arunachal Pradesh Police arrested a suspected drug peddler and seized approximately 140 grams of heroin from the Helipad area in Naharlagun on April 3.
Acting on credible intelligence inputs, a team from Naharlagun Police Station conducted a swift operation under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Dr. Nyelam Nega. The raid was led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rishi Longdo and Officer-in-Charge Inspector K. Dev.
The accused, identified as Kevin Nilling (36), a resident of Daporijo in Upper Subansiri district, tried to flee on a scooter upon spotting the police team. He was chased and successfully apprehended near Yupia Road in Borum village.
During the search, conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, police recovered 20 vials and nine cylindrical containers containing suspected heroin. They also seized Rs 44,490 in cash and the scooter used by the accused.
A case has been registered at Naharlagun Police Station under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act. The accused has been taken into judicial custody, and further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and possible links to larger drug networks.
This latest bust adds to the series of aggressive anti-drug operations being carried out by Capital Region Police to curb the growing menace of narcotics in the Itanagar-Naharlagun urban belt.
