Naharlagun: Naharlagun Police have cracked down on a drug racket operating in the capital region, seizing a quantity of heroin and arresting one person in a swift operation on March 31.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team from Naharlagun Police Station raided a location and recovered heroin along with other incriminating materials. One individual was taken into custody in connection with the case.
The arrested person has been identified as Tadar Takam, a resident of the area. Police sources said the seized heroin was intended for local distribution within the Itanagar-Naharlagun urban belt.
The contraband has been seized and sent for forensic examination. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
This fresh bust comes just days after another major heroin recovery in Naharlagun where four persons were arrested with around 150 grams of the drug. It reflects the Naharlagun Police’s intensified drive against narcotics amid growing concerns over drug trafficking and its impact on the youth in the capital complex.
Superintendent of Police, Capital Region, Nyelam Nega has reiterated the police’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug-related crimes. He appealed to the public to share credible information and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to keep the region free from the menace of drugs.
The investigation is ongoing to trace the supply chain and identify possible links to larger networks.
