Dry Days Declared in Banderdewa Ahead of Assam Assembly Elections 2026

Banderdewa: The administration in Banderdewa, located on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Papum Pare district, has declared dry days from March 31 to April 9, 2026, to ensure free, fair, and peaceful polling in the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly elections.

The order, issued under the relevant provisions of the Assam Excise Act, prohibits the sale, purchase, transport, and consumption of liquor and other intoxicating substances across the Banderdewa area during this period.

Banderdewa, being a major transit point and commercial hub between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, sees heavy vehicular movement and large gatherings, making the imposition of dry days particularly significant for maintaining law and order.

The dry days coincide with the final phase of election preparations, including EVM commissioning (starting March 31), scrutiny of nominations, and the actual polling scheduled for a single phase on April 9, 2026.

District authorities have appealed to all residents, shopkeepers, and political workers to strictly comply with the restrictions. Any violation will attract strict legal action under the Assam Excise Act and the Model Code of Conduct.

Similar dry day notifications are expected in other border areas and sensitive constituencies across Assam to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure a smooth electoral process.

This measure reflects the standard practice followed during elections to curb the influence of alcohol on voters and maintain public order in the run-up to polling day.
