Khonsa: In a significant welfare initiative, the Assam Rifles distributed solar-powered street lights and home lighting systems to remote villages in Tirap district, Arunachal Pradesh. The distribution drive was carried out under the civic action programme aimed at improving quality of life, boosting rural connectivity, and strengthening civil-military relations in the sensitive border region.
The programme benefited several far-flung villages, particularly those lacking reliable electricity supply. The solar lights are expected to improve night-time visibility, enhance safety and security for residents, and facilitate better movement after sunset in areas where conventional power infrastructure is yet to reach.
Senior Assam Rifles officers handed over the solar lighting equipment directly to village heads and local beneficiaries. The initiative is part of the force’s ongoing efforts to support community development in remote and border areas of Arunachal Pradesh.
This move comes as a welcome relief for villagers who often face challenges due to limited or no access to electricity, especially during the monsoon season when power disruptions are common. Solar lights provide a clean, sustainable, and low-maintenance solution that aligns with the state’s focus on green energy and environmental conservation.
Local residents and panchayat leaders expressed gratitude to the Assam Rifles for the thoughtful intervention, noting that the lights would significantly help school-going children study in the evenings, improve women’s safety, and support overall socio-economic activities in the villages.
The Assam Rifles has been actively involved in various community development projects across Arunachal Pradesh, including medical camps, infrastructure support, and skill development programmes, reinforcing its role as a “Friend of the Hills.”
This solar light distribution in Tirap district further strengthens the bond between the security forces and local communities while contributing to the broader goal of inclusive development in the Northeast.
