Four Arrested with Heroin in Arunachal’s Naharlagun: Major Drug Bust by Police and Security Forces

Itanagar/Naharlagun: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, Arunachal Pradesh Police, in collaboration with security forces, arrested four individuals and seized a substantial quantity of heroin from Naharlagun in Papum Pare district. The arrests took place on March 22 following credible intelligence inputs about drug trafficking activities in the area.

The operation was conducted by a joint team comprising personnel from Naharlagun Police Station, Special Narcotics Squad, and Assam Rifles. The accused were apprehended near a residential location in Naharlagun, where authorities recovered approximately 150 grams of heroin concealed in packets.

The arrested persons have been identified as:

  • Tadar Tachang (28), resident of Naharlagun
  • Tadar Tage (25), resident of Naharlagun
  • Tadar Tajing (30), resident of Naharlagun
  • One unidentified individual (under verification)

All four are locals from the region, and preliminary investigations suggest they were involved in local-level distribution of the contraband substance. Police sources indicated that the heroin was likely sourced from across the international border and intended for sale in the Itanagar-Naharlagun capital complex and surrounding areas.

The seized heroin, valued at several lakhs in the street market, has been sent for forensic examination. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and further interrogation is underway to trace the supply chain, possible links to larger networks, and additional accomplices.

This bust highlights the persistent challenge of drug trafficking in Arunachal Pradesh, particularly in urban centers close to international borders. Authorities have intensified vigil and intelligence gathering to curb the inflow and distribution of narcotics, which pose serious threats to youth and public health in the state.

Senior police officials commended the coordinated effort and reiterated their commitment to zero tolerance against drug-related crimes. The operation is part of ongoing drives to maintain law and order and protect vulnerable sections of society from the menace of narcotics.
