Indian Army Organises Outreach Programme at Tuting Monastery in Arunachal Pradesh to Strengthen Civil-Military Ties on International Day of Happiness

Itanagar/Tuting: The Indian Army conducted a special community outreach programme at Tuting Monastery in Upper Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh, coinciding with the International Day of Happiness. The event brought together Army personnel and 83 monks from the monastery to foster compassion, wellbeing, and stronger civil-military relations in this strategically important border region.

Held on March 20, the initiative was themed “Compassion at the Frontiers: Building Happiness Together.” It provided a platform for meaningful interaction between soldiers and the monastic community, promoting peace, mutual understanding, and community bonding in one of India’s most remote and sensitive frontier areas.

Key activities included a traditional prayer ceremony, interactive fun games, and a Buddhism-themed quiz, designed to encourage informal engagement and build trust among participants.

According to a defence release, the programme reflected the Army’s ongoing commitment to supporting local communities, enhancing harmony, and contributing to the overall wellbeing of residents in border regions. Officials highlighted that such outreach efforts create opportunities for trust-building and cooperation, essential for maintaining stability in remote areas near international boundaries.

Tuting, located in Upper Siang district close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC), is a key border town known for its monasteries and cultural significance. The monastery serves as a spiritual hub for the local population, making it an ideal venue for initiatives that blend military presence with cultural and community engagement.

This event underscores the Indian Army’s multifaceted role in the Northeast, extending beyond security to include welfare, cultural integration, and positive civil-military interactions that strengthen national unity and regional harmony.
