Nagaland Police Issue Advisory for Assam-Bound Travelers Amid Intensified Election Security Checks

Dimapur/Kohima: Nagaland Police have issued a public caution to commuters traveling to Assam, urging them to carry valid identification and necessary documents amid heightened security measures triggered by the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.
The advisory, released by the Dimapur police commissionerate, highlights the increased checkpoints and inspections at inter-state borders to ensure free, fair, and transparent polling in Assam. With the 512-km shared boundary spanning multiple districts in both states, authorities are ramping up surveillance to prevent any potential disruptions or illegal activities during the election period.
Travelers are specifically warned against carrying large sums of cash without proper proof of source, as this could lead to detention or seizure during routine checks. Similarly, valuables such as gold or silver ornaments require valid documentation to avoid complications. The police have strictly prohibited the transportation of political campaign materials—including pamphlets, posters, banners, or any election-related items—without explicit authorization from competent authorities.
Additionally, carrying arms, ammunition, or explosives without a valid license and prior permission remains completely forbidden and will attract stringent legal action.
Officials noted that many law-abiding citizens have faced inconveniences due to lack of awareness about these election-related restrictions. The advisory aims to minimize such issues by promoting preparedness and cooperation.
Nagaland Police emphasized that thorough vehicle and personal inspections are being conducted at key border points and other strategic locations. Commuters are advised to anticipate possible delays and to fully cooperate with security personnel to ensure smooth passage.
The measures align with broader efforts by Assam authorities to maintain peace and order during the assembly polls, with similar border vigilance intensified in districts like Sivasagar to seal vulnerable routes.
Nagaland Police urged all Assam-bound travelers from the state to adhere strictly to these guidelines, carry essential ID proofs (such as Aadhaar, voter ID, or driving license), and avoid carrying prohibited items to prevent unnecessary legal troubles or travel disruptions.
This proactive advisory reflects the collaborative approach between neighboring states to safeguard the electoral process and public safety.
