Pradyut Bordoloi Expresses Gratitude to BJP After Being Fielded from Dispur Seat in Assam Assembly Polls

Guwahati: In a major boost for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, veteran leader and former Congress Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi has thanked the saffron party for providing him a platform to serve the people more effectively. Bordoloi, who recently switched sides after resigning from the Indian National Congress, has been nominated as the BJP candidate from the high-profile Dispur assembly constituency in Guwahati.

Speaking about his decision, Bordoloi emphasized that he sought no special privileges upon joining the BJP. “I am grateful. I did not ask for anything from the BJP when I decided to join, because what I needed was a platform to work and play a more meaningful role,” he stated. The seasoned politician expressed humility as he prepares to seek votes from the people of Dispur, saying, “People have to have faith in me… I will, with a lot of humility, go to the people of Dispur as a BJP candidate.”

Bordoloi brings a wealth of experience to the BJP fold, having served as an MLA for four terms and held ministerial positions for 15 years during his time with the Congress. His swift nomination comes as part of the BJP’s first list of candidates for the upcoming state polls, where he has been fielded from the urban powerhouse seat of Dispur.

Reflecting on his past professional ties, Bordoloi recalled his productive collaboration with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in addressing development projects and insurgency issues. He described Sarma as a committed and capable leader, expressing eagerness to potentially work alongside him again to accelerate progress in Assam and the Northeast region.

Looking ahead, Bordoloi outlined his key priorities, focusing on generating employment opportunities, improving living standards, and fostering overall economic growth across the state.

This high-profile defection and immediate ticket allocation mark a significant shift in Assam’s political dynamics, strengthening the BJP’s position in a key urban constituency just weeks before the assembly elections.
