In a heartwarming gesture of compassion and community outreach, the Assam Rifles has distributed custom-fitted artificial limbs and assistive devices to several persons with disabilities in Tirap district, Arunachal Pradesh.
The initiative, organised under the Assam Rifles’ civic action programme, targeted individuals who had lost limbs due to accidents, medical conditions, or other causes. A team of medical experts and prosthetics specialists from the force conducted on-site assessments, measurements, and immediate fittings at a specially arranged camp in Khonsa.
Beneficiaries, including both men and women from remote villages, received high-quality prosthetics such as below-knee and above-knee artificial legs, along with crutches, wheelchairs, and physiotherapy guidance. Many recipients expressed overwhelming gratitude, stating that the devices would restore their mobility and dignity, allowing them to resume daily activities and contribute to their families.
Senior Assam Rifles officials present during the distribution emphasised that the gesture is part of the force’s larger commitment to supporting local communities in border areas. They highlighted the importance of such welfare programmes in building trust and improving the quality of life for people living in remote and challenging terrains.
The camp also included awareness sessions on disability care, rehabilitation, and government schemes available for persons with disabilities. Local administration and NGOs extended full cooperation to ensure maximum reach and follow-up support.
This initiative has been widely appreciated by the people of Tirap, with many describing it as a “ray of hope” for those who had been struggling with limited mobility. The Assam Rifles has assured that similar camps will be organised periodically across other districts to extend help to more needy individuals.
