Chief Minister Pema Khandu participated in the grand celebrations of the 50th Nyokum Yullo Golden Jubilee in Bameng, East Kameng district, joining thousands of Nyishi community members in honoring one of the most revered traditional festivals of the region.
Nyokum Yullo, a harvest and prosperity festival deeply rooted in Nyishi culture, marks prayers for abundant crops, good health, peace, and overall well-being. The golden jubilee edition was marked by vibrant traditional dances, rituals, community feasts, and cultural performances, showcasing the enduring richness of Nyishi heritage.
During his address at the event, CM Khandu congratulated the Nyokum Yullo Celebration Committee and the people of Bameng for successfully organizing the milestone celebration. He emphasized the importance of preserving indigenous festivals and traditions while adapting them to contemporary times.
In a major development boost for the area, the Chief Minister announced a package of ₹67 crore worth of projects for Bameng and surrounding villages. Key announcements include:
- Upgradation and blacktopping of multiple rural roads
- Construction of additional school infrastructure and hostels
- Augmentation of drinking water supply schemes
- Strengthening of health facilities and community halls
- Promotion of horticulture, agriculture, and skill development programs
Khandu highlighted that these initiatives are part of the government’s broader commitment to balanced development across all districts, with special focus on remote and border areas. He reiterated that festivals like Nyokum Yullo not only preserve cultural identity but also serve as platforms for community bonding, tourism promotion, and socio-economic progress.
The Chief Minister also interacted with local leaders, youth groups, and women SHGs, listening to their grievances and assuring prompt resolution of pending issues related to connectivity, electricity, and healthcare access.
