Arunachal Police Launch Probe into Massive Forest Fire Ravaging Lower Dibang Valley Plantation

Authorities in Arunachal Pradesh have initiated a formal investigation after a devastating forest fire swept through 70 hectares of plantation land in Bhismaknagar, located under the Koronu Forest Range in Lower Dibang Valley district. The incident has prompted concerns over environmental damage and potential human causes, with police registering a case to determine the origins of the blaze.

The fire erupted around mid-afternoon near a local poultry farm, approximately 200 meters northwest of the site. Forest officials detected the flames later that evening and mobilized teams, including support from Roing’s fire and emergency services, to bring it under control. Despite their efforts, the inferno completely destroyed all planted saplings in the affected zone, dealing a severe blow to local reforestation initiatives.

In response, Range Forest Officer Guto Meto from Cheta-I village filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Roing police station. Initial assessments indicate no immediate sightings of suspects or unauthorized individuals at the scene, but the probe aims to uncover any foul play or negligence.

The case has been logged under relevant legal provisions, including those addressing mischief by fire and damage to public property, alongside forest protection regulations. A dedicated officer has been assigned to lead the inquiry, ensuring a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the outbreak.

This event highlights the growing vulnerability of Arunachal Pradesh’s forests to wildfires, often exacerbated by dry weather conditions and human activities. Environmental experts emphasize the need for enhanced monitoring and community involvement to prevent such disasters, which threaten biodiversity and local livelihoods in the Northeast.
