In a vibrant display of community spirit and commitment to empowering young girls, Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Siang District Administration organized an inspiring mini marathon titled “Run for Girl Child” as part of the nationwide Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative. The event, held on the cusp of the state’s 40th Statehood Day celebrations, aimed to raise awareness about girls’ education, health, and overall welfare while fostering equal opportunities.
The marathon attracted enthusiastic participants from diverse villages and institutions across the district, competing in dedicated categories for boys, girls, men, and women. It underscored the collective push for gender equality and highlighted the transformative role of sports in building confidence and community bonds.
Superintendent of Police for Lower Siang, Gothombu Dajangju, graced the occasion as the chief guest. He was joined by Assistant Commissioner Tajum Ronya, District Art and Non-Communicable Diseases Officer Dr. Senpe Taipodia, Nodal Officer Monya Dini, and other key officials. In his address, Dajangju stressed the critical need to support girls through quality education, sports participation, and societal encouragement, praising the district administration and the Department of Women and Child Development for spearheading this impactful program.
The marathon concluded on a high note, with winners set to be honored during the grand Statehood Day festivities at Likabali. This initiative not only galvanized public involvement but also sent a resounding message on protecting and nurturing the girl child, aligning with broader national goals for inclusive development in the Northeast.
Such events play a pivotal role in promoting social change, encouraging healthier lifestyles, and ensuring that girls in remote areas like Lower Siang have access to opportunities that pave the way for a brighter future.
