PM Modi Highlights Fivefold Increase in Assam’s Tax Share Under BJP Rule, Criticizes Congress for Northeast Neglect

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spotlighted the dramatic growth in Assam’s financial allocations under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government, emphasizing a fivefold surge in the state’s tax share compared to the previous Congress administration. In a motivational speech to BJP workers, Modi attributed the party’s achievements to its dedicated grassroots cadre and outlined key developmental strides in the Northeast region.

Modi described BJP workers as the “lifeblood and oxygen” of the organization, stating that their unwavering efforts have been instrumental in elevating the party’s stature. Identifying himself primarily as a BJP karyakarta, he expressed profound gratitude to the workers and supporters in Assam, bowing in respect for their contributions.

Invoking cultural reverence, the Prime Minister offered salutations to Maa Kamakhya, crediting the deity’s blessings for fortifying Assam and the nation. He paid homage to social figure Kabirendra Purkayastha for his lifelong dedication, noting that the BJP-NDA government honored him with a Padma Award. Modi further pointed out that since assuming power, over 125 eminent individuals from the Northeast have received Padma Awards, symbolizing the region’s enhanced visibility on the national stage.

Shifting focus to economic progress, Modi lambasted the Congress era for sidelining the Northeast. He revealed that Assam’s current tax share stands at approximately ₹50,000 crore, a sharp rise from the ₹10,000 crore allocated during Congress rule. Over the last eleven years, the state has benefited from more than ₹5.5 lakh crore in central funding for diverse development schemes.

Positioning the Northeast as “Ashtalakshmi” under the BJP-NDA vision, Modi stressed the Union Budget’s emphasis on economic independence for the area. Substantial investments in highways and road networks were highlighted as catalysts for job creation and broader economic upliftment.

In a vivid illustration of infrastructure advancements, the Prime Minister recounted his recent experience landing an Air Force aircraft on the Moran highway, declaring it a testament to modernization. “Today, highways are being built here where not only vehicles move but airplanes also land,” he remarked, underscoring the transformative changes.

Modi also championed tourism as a growth engine, referencing a recent student interaction event held on a Brahmaputra River cruise. He expressed optimism about expanding river tourism, envisioning Assam as a leading destination for visitors seeking natural and cultural experiences.

On the welfare front, the Prime Minister enumerated accomplishments like constructing millions of homes for the underprivileged, building sanitation facilities, and ensuring access to clean drinking water. He credited these milestones to the tireless work of booth-level activists and called for heightened vigilance at polling stations to secure victories from the ground up.

This address reinforces the central government’s narrative of inclusive growth, organizational strength, and cultural integration, aiming to galvanize support while showcasing accelerated development in Assam and the Northeast.
