In a significant step toward fostering stability in Arunachal Pradesh’s sensitive border areas, a cadre from the NSCN-K (Khango Konyak faction) has voluntarily laid down arms and surrendered to security personnel in Tirap district. This move highlights ongoing initiatives to integrate former insurgents into mainstream society and curb militancy in the Northeast.
The individual, identified as SS Lieutenant Wangkhu Lowang, aged 32 and son of Wangdiap Lowang from Moktowa village under Dadam police station, formally surrendered at Khonsa. The ceremony occurred in the presence of Tirap Police, along with units from the 44th Assam Rifles and the 36th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Bearing Army No. 21336 within the outfit, Lowang handed over a 7.65 mm pistol manufactured in Kachin, marked with registration number 4702, accompanied by one magazine and six live rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition.
Authorities view this surrender as a testament to the persistent campaigns by law enforcement to persuade militants to abandon armed conflict. Such actions are pivotal in enhancing law and order, promoting reconciliation, and driving development in Tirap district, which has long grappled with insurgency-related challenges.
This incident aligns with broader security strategies in Arunachal Pradesh aimed at dialogue, rehabilitation, and community engagement to achieve lasting peace in the region.
