In a proactive effort to foster environmental consciousness and urban hygiene, a community-led cleanliness initiative took place in Koloriang town within Arunachal Pradesh’s Kurung Kumey district. Spearheaded by Nangram Kayang, who serves as the District Tourism Promotion Chairman and a dedicated journalist, the drive mobilized local volunteers to tackle waste accumulation across key areas.
A group of approximately 10 enthusiastic young participants rolled up their sleeves to collect and dispose of more than 1,600 kilograms of garbage from various spots in the district headquarters. This hands-on activity not only enhanced the town’s cleanliness but also visibly uplifted its aesthetic appeal, contributing to a healthier living environment for residents.
Nangram Kayang, addressing the volunteers, underscored the vital role of collective involvement in upholding sanitation standards and promoting long-term ecological balance. He highlighted how these grassroots campaigns play a crucial part in educating the public and cultivating a culture of accountability toward the surroundings.
Building on the success of this event, Kayang revealed plans for regular “self-social service” cleanliness programs to be held on the second Saturday of every month in Koloriang. The overarching goal is to evolve the district headquarters into a model of sustainability, featuring pristine streets and lush green spaces that reflect the region’s natural beauty.
This initiative exemplifies the growing momentum for eco-friendly practices in Arunachal Pradesh, encouraging broader community engagement to combat pollution and preserve the Northeast’s pristine landscapes.
