Major Milestone in Assam-Arunachal Border Resolution: Installation of Boundary Pillars Kicks Off

In a historic advancement toward resolving the long-standing border tensions between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, the installation of boundary pillars has officially begun along the shared frontier. This initiative represents the inaugural on-site execution of a pivotal agreement aimed at clarifying territorial lines and promoting regional harmony.

The operation is taking place between Arunachal Pradesh’s Pakke Kessang district and Assam’s Biswanath district, involving coordinated efforts from government representatives of both states alongside experts from the Survey of India, representing the central authorities. This collaborative step comes after the signing of a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) designed to address the protracted interstate boundary issues that have persisted for decades.

Experts anticipate that these boundary markers will help alleviate conflicts in contested zones, streamline administrative functions, and build stronger relationships among border communities. The move is hailed as a vital stride in enhancing interstate relations through peaceful negotiations.

Arunachal Pradesh’s Seijosa MLA, who also serves as the Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Water Resources, praised the development. He extended thanks to Chief Minister Pema Khandu of Arunachal Pradesh and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam for their forward-thinking guidance and determination in converting a complex territorial challenge into a cooperative solution.

The minister further noted that this progress promises enduring peace and unity in the affected districts, establishing an exemplary model for handling similar interstate disagreements across the area via constructive discussions and joint initiatives.

This breakthrough underscores the potential for dialogue in settling regional disputes, paving the way for improved stability and development in India’s Northeast.
