Jawaharlal Nehru College Pasighat Holds First Staff Council Meeting Under New Principal, Prioritizes Academic Reforms and Infrastructure Upgrades

Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC), Pasighat — one of Arunachal Pradesh’s oldest and most prominent higher education institutions — recently convened its inaugural Staff Council and Departmental Coordination Meeting under the leadership of newly appointed Principal Dr. Gindu Borang.

The meeting brought together faculty members, administrative staff, departmental heads, Vice Principal Dr. Leki Sitang, Staff Council Secretary Shri Agin Taboh, and IQAC Coordinator Dr. D. P. Panda to deliberate on key areas including academic enhancements, infrastructure development, student welfare, and effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Key highlights and decisions from the meeting include:

  • Academic Reforms — Refinement of academic processes with introduction of the new Annual API format, revival and institutionalization of academic awards, and swift automation of the admission process to streamline operations.
  • NEP 2020 Implementation — Addressing critical shortages in teaching staff that are hindering the rollout of multidisciplinary and flexible curriculum; proposals to appoint guest faculty as an immediate measure.
  • Research and Outreach — Strong encouragement for faculty to boost research activities and community outreach for greater societal contributions.
  • Student-Centric Initiatives — Establishment of a ‘Hall of Fame’ to honor class toppers and recognition programs to promote academic excellence, competition, and motivation among students.
  • Infrastructure Priorities — Urgent focus on improving hostel maintenance, water supply (including installation of a motor pump), sanitation facilities (especially toilets), and staff accommodation.

Vice Principal Dr. Leki Sitang emphasized, “The admission process would be automated at the earliest,” while reaffirming that “students are the central stakeholders of the institution” and “students’ welfare must remain a top priority.”

Principal Dr. Gindu Borang expressed appreciation for the college’s ongoing practices and collective spirit. He assured prompt attention to pressing infrastructure needs and urged all staff to discharge duties with sincerity and integrity. He highlighted the importance of teamwork and communal harmony but made it clear that stern action would be taken if required in the interest of the institution and society.

The discussions underscored a unified commitment to modernizing governance, enhancing service delivery, and positioning JNC as a leading center of learning in Arunachal Pradesh through collaborative efforts and accountability.

This meeting signals a proactive new chapter for the college, aligning with broader goals of educational quality, inclusivity, and sustainable development in the region.
